Had the same thing yesterday on a club dig, fresh plowed with no rain all week, then 3 weeks rainfall on Friday night, after 10 mins of walking on the field I was 7 foot tall with the mud stuck firmly to my boots. Luckily there was a field of rotted stubble available, so spent the rest of the day on there, the only downside was the field had already been used the week before so signals were a bit far and few between, but it was better than going home after a 70 mile drive to get there !
