Paul Wood, 64, was searching a field with his metal detector that was being developed for new houses when he found the 500-year-old Gold ring.
This type of ring is known as a seal ring, and dates back to between the late 1500s and early 1700s.
Paul who searches for the Metal Detectives metal detecting club said the item went under the hammer at Hanson’s Auctioneers, where it was sold to an overseas telephone bidder for £10,000.
There is no denying this item would have belonged to a person of wealth and importance.
Well done Paul from everyone at MDMedia
